Unsuccessful Reform Efforts

The senate approved a bill (SF3129) that would have extended the commission on judicial selection process (currently limited to district court and worker's compensation court of appeals vacancies) to appellate court vacancies, but the measure died in the house.

The senate passed a bill (SB80) that would have limited campaign contributions to judicial candidates to $2000 in election years and $500 in other years, but the bill died in the house.

SF 70/HF 224, which would have replaced contestable judicial elections with retention elections, was voted favorably out of two senate committees but stalled in a house committee.
