Juvenile Court
Jurisdiction: matters relating to juveniles
Selection of Judges: gubernatorial appointment from nominating commission w/ senate confirmation
Retention of Judges: retention election
Qualifications: U.S. citizen; state resident 3 yrs; 25 yrs of age; admitted to practice law in state
Justice Court
Jurisdiction: class B and C misdemeanors; ordinance violations; small claims < $5,000; infractions
Selection of Judges: county judges appointed by county commission/municipal judges appointed by city officials
Retention of Judges: retention election/reappointment
Qualifications: must attend 30 hrs of continuing judicial education each yr
Note: There are two types of justice courts: municipal justice courts and county justice courts.
